Word for Windows version 2.0
- From the Insert menu, select Footnote.
- Choose the Options button and choose the Separator button.
This opens a pane of the current window that allows the editing of the current footnote separator. The default footnote separator is a special character containing a 2-inch line.
To change the footnote-continuation separator, follow these steps:
- From the Insert menu, select Footnote.
- Choose the Options button and the Cont. Separator button.
This opens a pane of the current window that allows the editing of the current continuation separator. The default continuation separator is a special character containing a 6-inch line.

- From the Insert menu, select Footnote.
- Choose the Separator button.
