The information in this article applies to: Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.1, 5.1a SYMPTOMS In Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, the paragraph properties mark for a paragraph may not appear in page layout view (page view in Word version 4.0). This occurs if too small a value is set for the distance between a framed (positioned in Word version 4.0) object and the text. CAUSE This is a display limitation of Word. WORKAROUND To solve the problem, increase the distance between the object and the text. In Word versions 5.0 and later select the object and click Frame on the Format menu. Type a larger value in the From Text box and click OK. In Word version 4.0, select the object and click Position on the Format menu. Type a larger value in the Distance From Text box and click OK. NOTE: In Word versions 5.0 and later, the default distance is .13 inches; in Word 4.0, the default distance is .125 inches. The default distance is large enough for the paragraph properties mark to display in page layout view (page view in Word version 4.0). MORE INFORMATION The paragraph properties mark indicates that a paragraph has one of the following formats: Page Break Before Keep With Next Paragraph Keep Lines Together Position Side-by-Side To open the dialog box where a paragraph properties mark was applied, double-click the paragraph property mark in question. The paragraph properties mark is an example of a "hot spot."
