- == Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.1 ==
In Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, print preview displays only the printable portion of the page. For example, if the LaserWriter is the selected printer, print preview does not display any text or graphics that appear within a half-inch margin all the way around the page.
If a header or footer is not appearing, check the distance set in the appropriate Section dialog box (Format menu) and make sure it is not within the minimum margin settings for the selected printer.
If any positioned objects or paragraphs are also not appearing in print preview, make sure they are not too close to the edge of the page.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0, 5.0, and 5.1. This problem was corrected in Word for the Macintosh version 6.0.
If you need to print closer to the edge of the page than the minimum margin settings will allow, you may be able to do this if your printer has a Larger Print Area option. To turn on this option for an Apple LaserWriter, do the following:
- From the Format menu, choose Page Setup.
- Choose the Options button.
- Select the Larger Print Area (Fewer Downloadable Fonts) option.
- Close the Options box and choose the OK button in the Page Setup dialog box.
Word Versions 5.0 and 5.1
In Word version 5.0 and 5.1, objects are positioned using the Frame command. To check for positioning, select the contents of the document and from the Format menu, choose Frame. If the Unframe button is dimmed, nothing is positioned. If the button is normal in appearance, some elements of the document are positioned.
Word Version 4.0
In Word version 4.0, check for positioning by selecting the entire document. From the Format menu, choose Position. If the Reset button is dimmed, nothing is positioned. If the button appears normal, some elements in the document are positioned.
