SUMMARY
Because of the difficulties in determining how much of an outline you want to count as characters, words, lines, or paragraphs, the Word Count feature in Microsoft Word for the Macintosh does not work in outline view.
To use the Word Count feature in Word version 5.0 and 5.1, you must be in normal view or page layout View; in Word version 4.0, you must be in galley view or page view.
