SUMMARY

This article discusses recalculating fields with the Now() function.

MORE INFORMATION

Works 4.0

In the Database module in Works 4.0, the Now() function will update after you do at least one of the following:

  1. You save the Database document, close it and re-open it

    -or-

  2. You force a recalculation.

To force a recalculation, there has to be field in the database that contains a formula. When one of the references to the formula is changed, that record will update the Now() entry.

Works 2.0 and 3.0

In the Database module of Microsoft Works 2.0 and 3.0, calculated fields that use the Now() function will not update unless their record is changed. To have all records update without changing all the records, do the following:

IMPORTANT: Back up the database before recalculating.

  1. From the Edit menu, choose Select All.
  2. From the Edit menu, choose Cut.
  3. From the Edit menu, choose Paste to paste everything back into the database.
