Summary:

To select a format for a cell using a name, do the following:

  1. Choose Formula.Define Name.
  2. Enter a name in the “Name” box.
  3. In the “Refers to:” box, enter a text string indicating the format that the name will refer to. You can use any of the Custom Number formatting symbols except the colors.

Use the TEXT function to format the number using the name. The following example will display $2.35 if “bucks” is defined as =“$0.00”:

=TEXT(2.3456,bucks)

Using this technique will change the number to text.
