SUMMARY

The following is a description of the three types of manually inserted hyphens:

  1. Normal hyphen: (HYPHEN key) This hyphen is always visible. Word breaks the line after the hyphen, if necessary.
  2. Optional hyphen: (CTRL+HYPHEN key) This hyphen remains invisible until Word needs it for a line break.
  3. Nonbreaking Hyphen: (CTRL+SHIFT+HYPHEN key) This hyphen is always visible. Word breaks the line before the word containing the hyphen, not at the hyphen.
