The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a, 2.0 - Microsoft Windows operating system versions 3.0 and 3.1

Summary:

Tms Rmn is the default font in Microsoft Word for Windows, even if Tms Rmn is not available on the current printer. If the current printer does not support Tms Rmn, it is best to change the default font for all new documents. However, if you are using Word for Windows version 2.0, you do not need to change the default font for your particular printer. Word automatically changes the font to the nearest equivalent for Tms Rmn (for example, CG Times).

If you are using an HP LaserJet Series II or earlier and have no cartridge of soft fonts, Word for Windows version 2.0 defaults to Courier.
