In Word version 5.00, select the “Hercules Graphics Card” for the video adapter during setup. Then select the desired mode in the Options “display mode:” field of Word 5.00.
For Word version 5.50, select Hercules Graphics Card during setup. Then select the desired mode from the View Preferences Display Mode menu.
