No Error Text Is Given on DOS Versions 2.x PSS ID Number: Q37264 Article last modified on 11-02-1988 PSS database name: S_QuickC

1.10

MS-DOS

Summary:

If you run QuickC under DOS Versions 2.x, you will not receive error message text if QuickC is not in the current directory. Only error numbers will be given. QuickC must open QC.EXE to get error message text.

Under DOS Versions 2.x, full pathnames are not saved as they are in DOS Versions 3.x. Because the full pathname is not saved, QuickC does not know where QC.EXE is located. Unless QC.EXE is in the current directory, it is not found. This behavior is a limitation of DOS Versions 2.x. The full error text is in the “Microsoft QuickC Compiler for IBM Personal Computers and Compatibles Programmer’s Guide” and can be located by finding the error number given by the compiler.

To work around this problem, make sure QC.EXE always is in the current working directory, or upgrade the version of DOS to Versions 3.x or later.
