Cannot Update Summary Sheets on ASCII-Text Files

SUMMARY
Only Word-formatted documents can have their summary sheets updated under the Document-Retrieval command. In Word 4.00, the error message:
Not a valid file
will appear when you try to update the summary sheet of an unformatted file. In Word 5.00 and 5.50, the message reads:
Not a Word file
In an ASCII-text file, the “formatted:” field under the Transfer Save command is set to “No” in Word 4.00 or set to “Text-only” in Word 5.00. In a Word-formatted file, the “formatted:” field is set to “Yes” in Word 4.00 or set to “Word” in Word 5.00.
To save a file as an ASCII-text file in Word 5.50, choose File (ALT, F) Save As (A) Format (ALT+T) and choose Text Only. To save a file as a Word-formatted file in Word 5.50, choose File (ALT, F) Save As (A) Format (ALT+T) and choose Word.
