ISAM File Status “96” May Be XENIX COBOL Memory Fragmentation

PSS ID Number: Q36577 Article last modified on 11-03-1988

2.20 XENIX

Summary: Although file status “96” indicates that the ISAM buffer size is too small, Microsoft COBOL Version 2.20 for XENIX DOES NOT offer an ISAM file handler buffer size option switch (/S). However, this switch does come with COBOL Version 2.20 for MS-DOS. This error “96” number likely indicates a lack of memory space for ISAM buffers caused by memory fragmentation. For additional information about this problem, an application note titled “COBOL Memory Fragmentation” is available from Microsoft Product Support Services. You can obtain this application note by calling (206) 454-2030.
