Summary:
When converting a Word versions 3.x document to Word version 4.00 format, some of the information in the Page Setup dialog is not retained. This problem occurs because Word 3.x uses nonstandard methods to remember this data. In particular, Page Orientation and Paper Size don’t convert.
To work around this problem and have all of the Page Setup information convert correctly to Word 4.00, save the Word 3.x file in RTF (Interchange format) before opening the file in Word 4.00.
All of the information that appears in the Document dialog in Word 4.00 is converted correctly from Word 3.x (for example, margins and default tab settings are retained).
