Word Count Includes Hidden Characters
PSS ID Number: Q36518 Article last modified on 03-07-1997
====================================================================== 4.00 MACINTOSH kbusage SUMMARY ======= ———————————————————————- The information in this article applies to:
- == Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 4.0 ==
The Word Count command will count the number of characters, including hidden or special characters, for a text selection or the active window. Special characters are characters that are not normally printed, such as spaces, tabs, carriage returns, page breaks, and cell markers within a table.
The number of characters returned from the Word Count command may differ from the number of characters normally displayed in the information area (lower left corner). When a document is saved or opened, characters in other windows, such as the header, footer, or footnote windows, are included in the count.
For example, if the document window is the active window when the Word Count command is selected, any characters in the header, footer, or footnote windows will not be counted. When the document is saved, these characters are included because all characters in all windows are counted.
