SYMPTOMS
When you place a decimal tab within a table, with no other tabs set in that cell, Microsoft Word for the Macintosh automatically moves the insertion point to that tab for more easily entering numbers.
CAUSE
By design Word adds an invisible tab character to the beginning of the cell.
MORE INFORMATION
Note that when data is imported from Microsoft Excel, by default the data’s paragraph format is right-aligned (default Excel format for numbers). Therefore, when you insert a decimal tab into a table of cells imported from Excel, the tab may not automatically align until you apply left alignment to those cells.
