MS-DOS

Rich-Text Clipboard Format:

This format is similar to the standard text format, except that formatting attributes such as font, style, and size are retained.

The rich-text format lets you transfer formatted text between applications, provided that the receiving application supports the format.

For example, Microsoft Excel can transfer data to the clipboard in the rich-text format, but Microsoft Windows Write cannot interpret the format. If you copy text from Microsoft Excel to Write, the text appears unformatted. Write cannot donate or export text in the rich-text format.
