MS-DOS

Summary:

When loading an RTF document, Word will automatically detect the RTF format, then prompt you for loading as RTF. The original RTF document will be untouched. The output document will be created in the same directory as the document itself, given the same name with the .DOC extension, and loaded into Word. If necessary, Word will prompt to overwrite existing files. If the original document has the .DOC extension, Word will prompt to overwrite it as well, with a more explicit prompt.

When saving in RTF, Word will first save the current document in the binary format, then execute the external conversion utility to convert to RTF. The document in the Word format will not be erased, and the output document will be given the same name with the extension .RTF.

When saving in the RTF format, and if a style sheet is used, the conversion utility will convert the Word style sheet to RTF styles stored with the RTF document.
