SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word for Windows, you cannot use the Insert Index Entry command when the current selection is within a footnote window. You can insert an XE field entry (to designate an index entry) within the footnote window. However, the entry is ignored when the index is built, and Word returns the message “No index entries found.”

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word for Windows listed above. This problem was corrected in Word version 6.0 for Windows.
