PostScript Print Merge Document File Cannot Be Printed

PSS ID Number: Q35440 Article last modified on 11-02-1994

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for MS-DOS versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0

In Microsoft Word the file created with a Print Merge Document command using the POSTSCRP.PRD or POSTSCRL.PRD printer driver cannot be copied directly to a PostScript device for printing. This file is a plain-text file and does not include the printer-control information from the PRD file. Since the PostScript printer does not print a text file without the printer-control information, another step must be taken to convert this file into an appropriate PostScript file that can be copied directly to the printer.

After creating a file using the Print Merge Document command, do the following:

  1. Load the file into Word.
  2. Print this document to a file using the Print File command. Make sure that POSTSCRP.PRD or POSTSCRL.PRD is selected under Print Options.

The resulting file will be in proper PostScript form and can be copied to a PostScript device for printing.
