Multiplan: Losing Named Areas When Saving in Other Format PSS ID Number: Q34194 Article last modified on 04-08-1991 PSS database name: D_MPlan
3.x 4.00 4.20
When saving a Microsoft Multiplan file in Lotus format (by setting Transfer Options to Other), named areas may or may not be saved in what seems to be a random pattern. This is due to the fact that Lotus does not allow the name for a named area to exceed 15 characters. When Multiplan encounters a name that exceeds 15 characters while saving a worksheet in Other format, it stops processing that name and all subsequent names.
An example of this would be a worksheet with the following named areas:
AMOUNTS INVOICES COMMISSIONS PERCNTSALESTAXOUT NETINCOME NETLOSS GROSSEARN EXLOSS
If the worksheet with these names were saved in Other format, only the following named areas would be saved:
AMOUNTS INVOICES COMMISSIONS
When Multiplan finds a name that is longer than 15 characters (for example, PERCNTSALESTAXOUT), it does not process that name for saving in the Other format. At this point, processing of names for saving will stop altogether, and no names subsequent to this will be saved, regardless of length.
The workaround for this problem is to rename any area that has a name greater than 15 characters to a name that has fewer than 15 characters.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Multiplan versions 3.x and 4.00. This problem was corrected in Multiplan version 4.20.
