SUMMARY

To apply a speed format or a character style from a style sheet to a single character in Word 5.00, the combination of the ALT key and the format or style code must be pressed twice. For example, if only one character is highlighted, apply single-underline speed formatting by pressing ALT+U twice. Similarly, to apply a character style from the style sheet with a code of “SA”, press ALT+SA twice.

To apply formatting to a single character in Word 5.50, select the character by positioning the cursor below the character and pressing SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW Key. Once selected, apply formatting to the character with a speed key (for example, CTRL+I), the Ribbon, or by using Format Character.
