Support Added to Windows 2000 for the Intel '820' Chip Set ATA Controller |

SYMPTOMS
Windows 2000 does not perform direct memory access (DMA) or Ultra DMA (UDMA) transfers on a computer that uses the Intel "820" chip set ATA controller.
CAUSE
Windows 2000 does not support the Intel '820' chipset ATA controller without applying the hotfix referenced below.
RESOLUTION
A hotfix is available that enables UDMA4 and all DMA levels available on the Intel "820" chip set ATA controller. This hotfix does not implement UDMA5 support on this controller.
A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this fix.
