FIX: OLAP Server Out of Memory Error Occurs When You Perform Incremental Processing of Dimensions

Article ID: 256129

Article Last Modified on 8/7/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SQL Server OLAP Services

This article was previously published under Q256129

BUG #: 3792 (Plato7x)

SYMPTOMS

When you perform incremental processing of one or more dimensions, OLAP Server consumes all the memory available on a system before an out of memory error occurs. However, full dimension processing (a rebuild of the dimension structure) completes successfully.

When you perform an incremental update of one or more dimensions from a Data Transformation Services (DTS) package, the following error message typically appears:

Package Error
DimensionName
Memory error [Failed to reallocate space] ‘Not enough storage is available to process this command.’

When you perform an incremental update of one or more dimensions from OLAP Manager, the following error message typically appears:

OLAP Server Error: Memory error [Failed to reallocate space] 'Not enough storage is available to process this command. ' ; Time:2/7/2000 5:26:48 PM

You may also see the following error message in a Windows NT Application Event Log that comes from SQL Server OLAP Services:

5:24 PM The server is out of memory.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server OLAP Services version 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 2 for Microsoft SQL Server OLAP Services version 7.0. For information about how to download and install the latest SQL Server OLAP Services Service Pack, see the following Microsoft Web site:
