SYMPTOMS

After you use the Add Printer Wizard to install the Hewlett-Packard (HP) 2000c or 900c printer, the following event is logged in the System log:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Windows File Protection
Event Category: None
Event ID: 64021
Date: 02/17/2000
Time: 12:12:09 PM
User: N/A
Computer: servername
Description:
The system file c:\winnt\system32\spool\drivers\color\srgb color space profile.icm could not be copied into the DLL cache. The specific error code is 0x00000002 [The system cannot find the file specified.].

This file is necessary to maintain system stability.

CAUSE

The error message is logged because Windows File Protection is attempting to copy and protect the .icm file, but it cannot find the new target .icm file to copy.

RESOLUTION

You can ignore this error message. The .icm file is already on the protected list for Windows File Protection, and the .icm file on which the printer driver is returning an error message is the same version as the one that is present on the computer. There is no update for the .icm file provided with this driver.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The .icm files are used for Image Color Management (ICM). For more information about ICM in Windows 2000, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type image color management, and then view the appropriate topic.
