QIC or Floppy Controller-Based Tape Drives Not Supported in Windows 2000


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server


Windows 2000 does not provide support for QIC or other floppy controller-based tape drives.


Support for these types of backup devices is removed because the Removable Storage Manager tool has problems with them. If you have a QIC or floppy controller-based tape drive, contact the manufacturer to inquire about the availability of Windows 2000 drivers for your device.

For more information on compatible hardware for Windows 2000, consult the Windows NT Hardware Compatibility List (HCL). This is a compilation of computers and computer hardware that have been extensively tested with Windows NT for stability and compatibility.
