This article was previously published under Q254134

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Office 2000 on a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 Release Candidate 1 (RC1), some Send To options on the File menu in Office 2000 programs are unavailable. For example, the Mail To (As Attachment) option and the Routing Recipient option do not appear in the menu.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because several keys are not added to the [Mail] section of the Win.ini file when Office 2000 is installed on Windows 2000 RC1. When Office 2000 programs cannot find these keys, some options in the menu become unavailable.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, do one of the following:

Add the MAPIX=1 key to the [Mail] section of the Win.ini file:

  1. Open the Win.ini file. It resides in %WinDir%.
  2. Find the [Mail] section, and then add the following line to that section:

    MAPIX = 1

  3. Save the file, and then click Exit.

    You do not need to restart the computer, but you do need to restart any open Office programs for the change to take effect.

OR

Remove Office 2000, and then reinstall it after you upgrade Windows 2000 from RC1.

NOTE: This behavior occurs when you install Office 2000 on computers running Windows 2000 RC1. Simply upgrading to Windows 2000 from RC1 does not correct this behavior; the Office 2000 applications running on your upgraded RC1 computer will still exhibit this problem.
