SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to update a Web site, you receive the following error message:

"Could not find web server at URL on port 80"

In addition, Microsoft Internet Explorer does not display the Web pages.

CAUSE

This behavior can be caused by a "family-friendly" Internet Service Provider (ISP), such as Mayberry USA, that uses a proxy server to filter objectionable Web sites. This ISP uses a branded version of Netscape Navigator that includes the proxy settings automatically. These proxy settings are not automatically populated in Internet Explorer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, type the proxy server address and port manually. To do this, follow these steps.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x

  1. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Connection tab.
  3. Click to select the Access the Internet using a proxy server check box, and then type the proxy server address and port for your ISP.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x

  1. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Connection tab.
  3. Select your ISP connection in the Dial-up Settings box, and then click Settings.
  4. Click to select the Use a proxy server check box, and then type the proxy server address and port for your ISP.
