SUMMARY

The only page breaks that can be removed are manual page breaks. Manual page breaks are entered by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER, and can be deleted by highlighting the page break symbol and pressing the DEL key. The manual page break symbol is a narrowly spaced, single-dotted line.

In Word version 5.50, manual page breaks are inserted with a CTRL+ENTER keystroke. Manual page breaks may also be inserted using the Insert Break menu option, then selecting the Page option in the given dialog box and pressing ENTER.

To remove more than one manual page break at a time, you may use either the Print Repaginate command or the Replace command and replace the page breaks with nothing.

To use the Print Repaginate command, do the following:

  1. Press ESC, P, R.
  2. Set the “confirm page breaks:” field to Yes.
  3. Press ENTER.
  4. Type R at the “Enter Y to confirm or R to remove” prompt.

Word will stop at each page break and ask you to confirm or remove it.

To use the Replace command, do the following:

  1. Press ESC, R.
  2. Type ^D in the “text:” field.
  3. Set the “confirm:” field to No.
  4. Press ENTER.

Word will remove all manual page breaks and division breaks from the document after you press ENTER.
