SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Exchange Server 5.0 and 5.5 allow you to import newsgroups for a particular news feed through what is known as an Active file. This Active file is provided by the Usenet hub, or you create one using Telnet. Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server NNTP service does not support imports from this file.
RESOLUTION
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
WORKAROUND
To add newsgroups to which you would like to subscribe:
- Use a text editor such as Notepad to create a file with the following lines:
215 start
newsgroup1
newsgroup2
newsgroup3
. - Verify that the Rgroup.vbs file exists in the following folder.
X:\
SystemRoot
\System32\Inetsrv - To add the newsgroups, run the Rgroup.vbs script with the following parameters, where [
filename
] is the text file saved in the previous step:rgroup.vbs -t l -a [
path to the filename
]. Example: rgroup.vbs -t l -a C:\active.txt.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
