Database Does Not Mount After You Restore an Offline Backup

SYMPTOMS

After you restore an offline backup of the information store, the database may not mount, and the following events appear in the application log: Event Type: Error

The information store was restored from an offline backup. Indicate that the database is allowed to be restored to, in the Microsoft Exchange System Manager, so that it can be patched.

RESOLUTION

To restore an offline backup, you must allow the database to be overwritten during a restore procedure. Follow these steps to enable this option:

  1. Start the Exchange System Manager.
  2. Expand Servers, expand Server Name, expand Storage Group, and then click the database that was restored.
  3. Right-click the database, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Database tab.
  5. Click to select the This database can be overwritten by a restore check box.
  6. Click OK.
  7. To mount the database, right-click the database, and then click Mount Store.


MORE INFORMATION

Unlike Exchange Server 5.5 and earlier, you do not need to run isinteg -patch after you restore an offline backup.
