SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to place your Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)-based computer in Standby mode, or your computer attempts to goes into Standby mode, it may not do so as expected.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you are using an Intel PRO/100+ (or similar) Ethernet adapter and you have temporarily disabled the adapter in Device Manager.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, re-enable the Ethernet adapter; to do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- On the Device Manager tab, expand Network adapters.
- Double-click the adapter that you want.
- On the General tab, click to clear the Disable in this hardware profile check box.
- Click OK, and then click Close.

To set the amount of time after which Standby will begin if no computer activity occurs, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Power Options.
- On the Power Schemes tab, select the time that you want in the System stand by box.
