SYMPTOMS
When you upgrade your computer from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6 to Windows 2000 Advanced Server, you may receive the following error message in the System Event log:
CAUSE
This issue can occur because Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6 does not write the product suite type to the registry.
NOTE: When you upgrade one of the nodes in a server cluster running Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 6 to Windows 2000 Advanced Server, it supplies its own product suite type which gets written to the registry on both nodes. Then as a part of the post upgrade, it reads all the node's product suite information to calculate the node limit. It fails to read this for the node running Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6 because the Service Pack installations do not write that information.
RESOLUTION
You can safely ignore this error message, if the Cluster service starts successfully on the Windows 2000 node of the cluster. The Cluster service startup code uses the correct defaults.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
