When you install Microsoft Office 2000 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0 or Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, you can secure the computer by using Group Policy in Windows 2000, or by using the Security Configuration Manager as part of Service Pack 4 or later for Windows NT Workstation 4.0.

This article contains information about locking down Microsoft Office 2000.

If you need to enhance security on a computer that is running Office 2000, use the security templates of the Security Configuration Manager of Windows NT 4.0 or Group Policy of Windows 2000.

The Security Configuration Manager can be downloaded as part of the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0. For more information, browse to the following Microsoft Web site:

Group Policy is included with Windows 2000. For more information about Group Policy in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, browse to the following Microsoft Web site:

NOTE: The security templates of the Security Configuration Manager and of Group Policy will always err to the side of security.
