SYMPTOMS

When you run Setup for Microsoft Project, you may receive the following message:

The Finder needs your attention. Please select the Finder from the Application menu.

When you click Finder on the Application menu, you receive the following error message:

The application "Microsoft Project Setup" has unexpectedly quit, possibly because the server that contains it has been disconnected.

CAUSE

These error messages occur when you install Project 4.0 under Macintosh OS 9.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, do not click Finder on the Application menu when the first message appears. If you ignore the message and continue with Microsoft Project Setup, you do not receive the second error that stops Project Setup.

If you receive the second error message described in the "Symptoms" section of this article, restart Setup. Ignore the first message and continue with Microsoft Project Setup.

STATUS

This problem does not occur if you install Microsoft Project 4.0 under Mac OS 8.6 or earlier.
