SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to print to a Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 870Cse printer, you may receive one of the following error messages:

  • Cannot print, be sure the printer is connected properly and use control panel to verify the printer is configured properly
  • Error initializing output device
  • A system error occurred while printing this document


CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the printer driver included with Windows 98 may not be fully compatible with the printer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact Hewlett-Packard technical support to obtain an updated printer driver.
