When you are running the Computer Management snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC), you may see incorrect or illegible information in the Type column in the right pane for Disk Defragmenter if you click Storage in the left (Tree) pane.

Some of the incorrect or illegible values include:

  • Refresh Diskview
  • (c:) Analyzed |%100
  •  ::_nodocstore_::
  • Logical Drives
  • IIS:://mr-ed2/SmtpSue
  • tive Registrations
  • Show &Related Links

This behavior is caused by pointer corruption.

This problem is harmless and does not affect the functionality of the Computer Management snap-in. To work around the behavior, quit and then restart the Computer Management snap-in. The Type value for Disk Defragmenter is reset to its correct value (Extension Snapin).

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
