PPT2000: Fade Through Black Slide Transition Looks Poor

Article ID: 246301

Article Last Modified on 7/31/2001

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q246301

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Fade Through Black slide transition in your PowerPoint presentation, the slide transition in slide show may not appear to transition smoothly, and may appear boxy, granulated, and may even appear to have a faint wipe effect.

NOTE: The Fade Through Black slide transition may appear to work fine on different computers using different hardware.

CAUSE

Due to problems with the Fade Through Black transition in previous versions of PowerPoint, the mathematical algorithm used to create the transition in the Windows Graphical Device Interface (GDI), has changed. Because of this change, certain video hardware may not be able to handle the transition effect smoothly.

RESOLUTION

There is no workaround or resolution to this problem. The only suggestion is to use another slide transition if this effect is too poor for use on your video hardware.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
