SYMPTOMS
When you use the Find feature in Microsoft Money 98, you do not find any items that match based on split transaction data. This occurs even if you are certain that such data exists.
CAUSE
The Find feature in Money behaves differently than in earlier versions. Money only shows split detail transactions when a category or classification filter other than All is set.
If there is no category or classification filter, Money only shows the main transaction, without looking at the details. This can cause a problem if you wish to search for a split detail transaction in your file, but do not want to filter the transactions by category or classification.
RESOLUTION
To see Split transaction details in the Find, you need to specify a Category filter.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Money 98.

To set a Category filter when you know you are looking for a transaction that is part of a split transaction, follow these steps:
On the Tools menu, point to Find, and then click the type of transaction you want to find.
Enter the filters you want to use on the appropriate tabs.
On the Category tab, click to select All Categories.
NOTE: If Selected Category is already selected, this means your previous search did not match any transactions in the file, including split details.
In the Category list, find a category, or subcategory, that you know is not in use in the transaction or transactions you are looking for.
Click to clear that category. The Selected Category option is now selected.
Click Find.
Money now looks at split detail transactions when searching through transactions in the Find.
