When you insert a hyperlink into an unsaved document (click Hyperlink on the Insert menu), Microsoft Word displays the following message:

You should save this document before creating a hyperlink.
Do you want to save this document now?

If you click Yes and save the document as type HTML Document, Word does not insert the hyperlink.

To work around this problem, use any of the following methods:

  • Save the document as HTML before inserting the hyperlink.

  • Click Yes when you are prompted to save the document, and then save as a format other than HTML.

  • Click No when you are prompted to save the document, insert the hyperlink, and then save the document as HTML.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
