HOWTO: Improve the Graphic Speed When Working With Toonz

Last reviewed: September 2, 1997
Article ID: Q173294

The information in this article applies to:

  • Softimage Toonz, version 4.1

SUMMARY

There is a major difference in graphic performance depending on the combination of two parameters - Display Color Resolution (64K colors vs. Truecolor) which is set Windows and Pixel screen size which is set in the Toonz setup. If these variables are not set properly you will experience very poor performance from your graphic card.

To improve the speed of your graphic card when working with Toonz on Windows NT, do the following:

  1. Change your Windows NT display from true colors to 32768 colors (Control Panel > Display > Settings).
  2. In Toonz, change the Screen Pixel setting from 32-bit to 16-bit (Toonz Setup > General Settings > Screen Pixel).
  3. Save the setup file and make sure it is the active one when you are working in Toonz.
