SUMMARY
By default, Microsoft Commerce Server does not install correctly on a backup domain controller (BDC). During installation, Commerce Server Setup must create a local Windows NT group called 'StoreManagers'. This cannot be done on a BDC; therefore, Setup fails. This article describes the steps necessary to successfully install Commerce Server on a BDC.
Note that this article only describes a workaround; Microsoft highly recommends that you do not install Commerce Server on a BDC.
MORE INFORMATION
To install Commerce Server on the BDC, perform the following steps:
- Create a local Windows NT group on the primary domain controller (PDC) called 'StoreManagers'.
- Add the domain user that will be installing Commerce Server on the BDC to the newly created group.
- To ensure that these changes are relayed to the PDC from the BDC, synchronize the two servers. This can be done through 'Server Manager' on the BDC. On the Computer menu, click Synchronize With Primary Domain Controller.
After completing the preceding steps, you can successfully install Commerce Server on a backup domain controller.
NOTE: When you use the Store Foundation Wizard, you must use an existing account on the PDC as the administrator of the store.
