This article describes how to configure the Yamaha OPL3 SA sound cards for use with Microsoft ActiMates characters and the ActiMates PC Pack, or the SideWinder Force Feedback Pro joystick.

The latest sound card drivers are not available on Yamaha's Web site; they must be obtained through the hardware manufacturer or software retailer.

Yamaha OPL3 SA

This is a Plug and Play sound card and Windows 95 should automatically install the correct drivers.

Yamaha OPL3 SA2/Yamaha OPL3 SAx

This is a Plug and Play sound card and Windows 95 should automatically install the correct drivers.

This card uses an integrated wavetable that can be enabled by using the following steps:

NOTE: This is not necessary for ActiMates products to work properly.

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Multimedia.
  3. On the MIDI tab, click External Yamaha OPL3 SA Softsynth Device in the Single Instrument box.
