UA: Referring Organization Does Not Appear in Usage Analyst Report

Article ID: 171880

Article Last Modified on 2/20/2004

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Site Server 2.0 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Usage Analysis

This article was previously published under Q171880

SYMPTOMS

The Usage Analyst Analysis module fails to show the referring organization after running a report on Referring Organization.

CAUSE

The Analysis module fails to display the Referring Organization in reports because the Import module failed to update the database with the correct organization type ID.

The Import module updates the database with an organization type ID for referring organizations. The organization type ID is updated after a log file is imported and the Title lookup, IP Resolution, and Whois operations are performed.

In this case, the Import module updates the database with organization type ID 8 for every referring organization. Because organization type ID 8 really means "Unknown Organization," the Analysis module does not display the referring organization name in its reports.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, obtain the hotfix mentioned below. With the hotfix, Import.exe was modified to update the database with the correct organization type ID.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Site Server version 2.0.

This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Microsoft Site Server version 2.0. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
