Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.

Custom databases that have multiple queries running may stop responding on Microsoft Windows NT or Microsoft Windows 2000 with the following error:

Access Violation (0xc0000005), Address (varies)

This problem typically occurs when you open a database that has a significant number of background queries running simultaneously. It can also occur during the initial phases of form loading. You may also see this error when you modify the RecordSource property of a form from within the form's Load or Activate events.

The internal list that Microsoft Access maintains to control access to the progress meter on the Status Bar has become corrupted.

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).

For additional information about SR-2, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

151261 OFF97: How to Obtain and Install MS Office 97 SR-2

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access 97. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).
