SYMPTOMS

If you try to back up your files to a floppy disk that contains other files, you may receive the following error message:

The disk where “A:<File name>” is being stored is full. You need to make room on your disk by removing files you no longer need.

CAUSE

Microsoft Money 98 uses a new file format that is significantly larger than the file format of earlier versions. When you back up your file to a floppy disk, Money compacts your data file. A 4.5 megabyte (MB) file on the hard disk should fit onto a blank 1.44 MB floppy disk when compacted. It may not fit on a disk you have used to back up your Money data file if the disk contains other files.

RESOLUTION

Back up your Money 98 data file to a blank floppy disk. If your data file is larger than 5 MB, it may not fit on a floppy disk. You may need to use a file utility such as Microsoft Backup to backup your data files to multiple disks. A free multi-disk backup utility for Money 98 is available for download from Microsoft.
