When you click a hyperlink in Word to open the link in Internet Explorer and then click the Back button to switch back to Word, nothing happens and Internet Explorer remains active.

This is a timing issue: This problem occurs when you start Internet Explorer 3.x from Word, and Internet Explorer finishes starting before Word can establish a connection to it.

To correct this problem, upgrade to Internet Explorer version 4.0 or later.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
