Internet Explorer 4.0 Setup Seems to Hang

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Internet Explorer, the installation process may seem to stop responding (hang), and a Version Conflict dialog box button may be visible on the taskbar.

CAUSE

During the installation of Internet Explorer, a Version Conflict dialog box may be generated. This dialog box may be visible only as a button on the taskbar. Until you respond to the Version Conflict dialog box, the installation process seems to hang.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Version Conflict dialog box button on the taskbar.
  2. Respond to the Version Conflict dialog box by choosing to keep or discard the file in question.
