In Microsoft Excel 97, if you run a Visual Basic for Applications macro that uses the CreateObject method to create a RealAudio ActiveX control object, you may receive the following error message:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

If you click Details, you receive an error message similar to the following:

EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module RAGUI32.DLL at 0137:018c4c40.

This problem occur if the following conditions are true:

  • The workbook contains a reference to the RealAudio ActiveX Control Library, RAOCX32.DLL.

  • The macro contains code similar to the following:

          Dim X As RealAudio
          Set X = CreateObject("RealAudio.RealAudio(tm) ActiveX Control " _
              & "(32-bit)")

Do not use the CreateObject method to create a RealAudio ActiveX control in Microsoft Excel 97.

RealAudio ActiveX controls do not currently support the use of the CreateObject method. Also, because RealAudio ActiveX controls do not support the IDataObject OLE interface, you cannot insert them into worksheets in Microsoft Excel 97. You can use them only in UserForms in Microsoft Excel 97.

RealAudio and RealAudio ActiveX controls are manufactured by Progressive Networks, Inc., a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding these product's performance or reliability.
