SYMPTOMS

When you send a message from Microsoft Team Manager or you launch a Team Manager Attachment in the Lotus Notes Client, you may receive the following error message:

The Messaging Option that was chosen in setup will not work on this machine. You need to either install a mail program that uses MAPI (such as Microsoft Exchange) or re-run setup to change your messaging option.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the Lotus Notes client 4.1a or greater is not configured correctly to work with Windows messaging. For the Lotus Notes client to be properly configured to work with Microsoft Team Manager, the Windows messaging components must be installed on the computer before you install the Lotus Notes client.

Lotus Notes will make additional changes to the system when it detects that Windows messaging components are installed on the system.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem both the Lotus Notes client and Team Manager must be installed in a specific order. Follow this sequence to remove and reinstall the programs.

  1. Remove the Lotus Notes Client.
  2. Install the updated Windows 95 Messaging components if not already installed.
