When you attempt to change the source of a link in Microsoft Excel, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Microsoft Excel 97
Microsoft Excel 7.0
You may receive either of these error messages if you are trying to change a link to a file that has a name that is longer than 122 characters.
To resolve this problem, shorten the length of the file name to 122 characters or fewer.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
For more information about creating links, click the Index tab in Microsoft Excel Help, type the following text
and then double-click the selected text to go to the "Create links to connect to data and files" topic.
